We have implemented a mesos framework which is deployed and running successfully on a DCOS cluster we built using the CloudFormation template made available from dcos.io.
When deployed, our framework will launch executors on the slaves. The framework in conjunction with these executors are used to launch further long-running tasks.
We can view the Scale popup window by going into Marathon, opening our framework page in the list of service, and then clicking on the "Scale" button.
The number of instances shown in the "Scale" window shows the total number framework task + executor task + long running task. So for example if we have 1 framework instance running with 3 executors and 5 long running tasks, the number of instances shown in the "Scale" window is 9.
I expected the number of instances to be shown is 1 since we only have 1 framework instance, and the rest are the executors and long running tasks. Because of the unexpected number of instances shown in the Scale window, I had not tried scaling up/down the framework instances.
I'd like to confirm what should be the correct number of instances in the Scale window.
